Description:
Established in 1970 and housed in a classical 1934 tea pavilion, it gets its name from the nearby Serpentine Lake. An art gallery in Kensington Gardens, central London, the Serpentine Gallery focuses on modern and contemporary art. Since founded in 1970, the gallery has established an world-wide reputation for quality, and the presentation of modern and contemporary art. The Serpentine Gallery undertook a £4 million renovation of the Gallery, which was undertook and completed in 1998. Under the patronage of Diana, Princess of Wales the new design contained many attributes of the original Grade II listed structure. It still remains an ideal place to exhibit art due to its flexibility and functionality. The gallery has four large and beautiful rooms and attracts an abundance of natural light through high windows. Classical architecture is the main focal point of Serpentine aided by a stunning backdrop of a Royal Park. Outside events are essential to benefit from the Serpentine’s private landscaped garden and terrace.
